What is Operation Home Sweet Home?

There are many veterans returning back to the US who suffer from the effects of war. They have PTS; some turn to addictive substances cope and end up, literally, on the street. Some female veterans have survived not just the effects of war, but also sexual and domestic abuse. These factors negatively impact the community to which they return in many ways: socially, economically and the public's health.

Many veterans long for peer-to-peer and community connection and need a sense of security and a home of their own, but their illness or abuse gets in the way. After veterans brave the transitioning process from the streets into housing, they need items to help them begin a successful transition. Items like a bed, a crib, a couch, table and chairs to eat at, pots and pans on which to cook meals, towels, curtains...things that make a house a home are items we have purchased for veterans since we began in 2021.

Sunny Mike has supported, 37 of those were transitioning back into society. We have helped that many turn their house into a home. We give them the amount of funding we can provide and then let them create their vision of a home. We order the items they have selected. Sometimes we shop together with the veteran. This step is vital in providing the stability for the veteran to once again become a contributing and vital part of their community.

Operation Home Sweet Home allows us to continue to respond to our application requests to help with rent, car payments, heat, and car repairs – essentials that many of us take for granted. For some veterans, a functioning vehicle isn't just a convenience; it's a lifeline to a semblance of stability and in some cases it is their home.

The program’s current capacity allows us to provide a sum of $600.00 in one-time assistance to each veteran in need. We invite you to donate to turn more houses in homes for our local heroes!
